It's been too long since I updated the blog... I guess I'm a bad blogger, but I will resolve to be better!
Andy, Claire and I spent the New Year at home. We got home from our Pisa trip early in the evening on New Year's Eve. We had dinner, put Claire to bed and waited for the fireworks to begin. We couldn't see the professional display that was set off over the Bay of Naples, but boy did we see fireworks!
Italians are crazy for their fireworks and around us, it seemed that every tenth house was setting off their own decent sized display. There were fireworks in all directions as far as we could see. The went all through the evening, with a few going off here and there. By eleven there were more and the crescendo was certainly at midnight for about a half an hour. We went to bed around one and we could still see some and hear some as we drifted off to sleep.
We had a great view from our roof and our next door neighbors were up there too, lighting off a few of their own. One of their items was a 2010 sign that had large sparklers attached to it. They set it on the wall that our houses share and as soon as they lit it, it fell over onto our deck. They laughed and said, "Scusi!!" and we laughed as it struck us as very Italian.
Fortunately all the houses here are made of cement and tile, so there was no damage, but we did have some funny evidence the next morning!!
